Dave Conley, a Master Maine Guide, has been paddling the rivers of Maine and Canada since 1985. Guided canoe trips offered include day, overnight, weekend or longer for the beginner to advanced.  Canoe trips are fully outfitted and guided. During the school year, Dave teaches an outdoor education program at East Grand High School in Danforth, host to the annual East Grand Adventure Race. In the fall, guided moose hunts are offered in northern Maine. For the past 25 years, Dave and his crew travel to Lynchburg Virginia during the Christmas Season to sell  trees, wreaths and greenery to the fine folks of central Virginia. Contact Dave to discuss putting a trip together for your family or group, join others on an outing, your next moose hunt or adventure racing!

Maine Guides Provide: We take care of all pre-trip planning, packing of group gear, menu, shopping for food and packing meals. A four day canoe trip is actually six to seven days of work for a guide. With years of experience and many outings on Maine and Canadian rivers, we've become quite efficient with the whole process including best place to start and end your trip, where to camp, what rapids to scout, river distances and time needed to travel, points of interest, camp setup & takedown, providing quick shelter, proper fire wood selection, hot & hardy meals cooked over an open fire, and the knowledge & experience of your canoe route so you can have a safe and enjoyable time.

In the Words of One Our Guest "Dave and Tammi take the experience (including fun, relaxation, and pure enjoyment) to another level. They taught my son (age 13), my father (age 75), a family friend (age 13) and me (age 44) new things about reading the river, perfecting our canoe strokes, cooking over the open fire, and setting up and taking down the campsite. Dave shared his knowledge of the river and its history as we paddled, and kept us entertained every night with stories about being a Maine guide, The food was first rate, cooked over the open fire from wood that we had harvested along the river. At night, there was a lot of laughing mixed in with just the right amount of silence and sounds of the loons. It's difficult to imagine a more perfect way to end the day. We were fortunate to see several moose, paddling close to them on several occasions. Dave uses the perfect combination of encouragement, humor, good natured ribbing, patience, and a true desire to spread his enthusiasm for back country canoeing and camping to bring the best out in everyone. We all had a great time".

Hands On: While trips involve paddling canoes, setting up and taking down camp, most people desire hands on involvement with other camp chores including meal preperation, cooking, fetching and cutting firewood. We'll be sure to include you in as much as you desire around the campsite. Canoe trips are a great place to learn or improve upon skills such as proper canoemanship, reading the river, knots and uses, map & compass, cooking over an open fire and wilderness baking.

Leadership & Safety: We understand the importance of maintaining a safe environment. Our registered Maine Guides have the skills and proven experience to lead wilderness canoe trips. We review trip protocols with all participants prior to going downriver. When necessary, we provide basic instruction in safe canoemanship and wilderness travel. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance while on trips.
